Walmart China

Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, has appointed a new chief operating officer for its Chinese operations following a string of top level departures in recent months.

The US-based retailer has appointed Sean Clarke as the new chief operating officer of its Chinese division. Mr Clarke was previously head of finance for the company in Canada, according to a report on the Just-Food website.

It also names Steve Smith as chief marketing officer for China. Mr Smith was previously senior vice president of strategy, marketing and communications with Delhaize.

“We are confident that the mix of Walmart global talents and strong local leaders will head the company for further success in this booming market,” said Walmart China chief executive Ed Chan.

A number of executives have left Walmart’s Chinese operation recently with Rob Cissell, former chief financial officer leaving in May, and Shawn Gray leaving his post as vice president of Walmart China’s hypermarket operation in June.
