Hamburg Sud reefer containers

An agreement has been struck by shipping companies Hamburg Süd and CCNI, along with China Shipping, Hanjin and Hyundai, on optimising the service offering during the upcoming slack season between Asia and Mexico/South America West Coast.

The move, which comes into effect from mid-November 2011, will see the partners' three slings reduced to two.

Sling 1 of the new service will see the deployment of eleven 5,500 TEU vessels (nominal), of which Hamburg Süd is to provide 10 and CCNI one.

The port rotation for Sling 1 is Keelung, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Pusan, Lazaro Cardenas, Manzanillo, Buenaventura, Callao, Iquique, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso and Keelung.

On Sling 2, 10 container ships with a capacity between 3,100 and 4,500 TEU (nominal) will be deployed, with CCNI, China Shipping and Hanjin each providing three vessels and Hyundai one.

For this sling, the rotation is Ningbo, Shanghai, Shekou, Hong Kong, Pusan, Manzanillo, Buenaventura, Guayaquil, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, San Vicente, Manzanillo, Pusan and Shanghai.

'With the above service optimisations, the partners will ensure adequate port coverage and competitive transit times for the markets in Asia, Mexico and on South America West Coast – both eastbound and westbound,' a joint statement read.
