Ready Pac Romaine lettuce recall Nov 2011

Ready Pac has voluntarily recalled 5,379 cases ofbagged salad products containing Romaine lettuce because they may be contaminated with E. coli (E.coli O157:H7), according to a statement from the US Food and Drug Administration.

The recall extends only to certain products listed below with the use-by date of 18 November 2011 and sold in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas,Washington, and Wyoming.

The recall covers the following bagged salads: 10oz. Ready Pac Caesar Romaine, 25oz Ready Pac Santa Fe Caesar Complete Salad, Ready Pac Classic Caesar Complete Salad, 10oz. Ready Pac Bella Romaine, 10oz. Dining In Classic Caesar Salad Kit, 10oz. Raley’s Caesar Romaine, 10oz. Trader Joe’s Romaine Salad, 16oz. Trader Joe’s Very American Salad, 10oz. Safeway Farms Caesar Romaine, 9oz. Safeway Farms Hearts of Romaine, 10oz. Safeway Farms Complete Caesar Supreme and 10.25oz Safeway Farms Complete Southwestern Ranch.

FDA said no illnesses related to these products have been reported and pointed out that no other Ready Pac Foods products are included in the recall.

The voluntary recall was initiated based on a single positive random sample result for E.coli reported to Ready Pac by the FDA. Ready Pac is fully cooperating with the FDA on the recall.

Ready Pac Foods said it has earned an outstanding safety record for over 40 years and has taken immediate precautionary measures to protect public health.

The California-based company has notified all of its retail customers who have received the product in question and directed them to remove it from their shelves.
