Peru Hass Avocados

Peru's Hass Avocado Producers Association (ProHass) is anticipating an increase in exports of 30 per cent this year, with shipments set to hit the 90,000-tonne mark.

The anticipated rise is set to be driven by the opening of the US market to Peruvian avocados without cold treatement, a move approved last year, according to Agraria.pe and reported by Fresh Fruit Portal.

'Last year was very good for returns,' said ProHass president Arturo Medina. 'It's difficult to know if we can reach the same (returns), and we also have to add the subject that we will have a higher volume.'

Despite this, Promperú agro-industry chead William Arteaga said that he felt an industry estimate could be pegged at US$190m as a result of US access, which would mean a year-on-year increase of 5.6 per cent.
