Produce including peppers contain the anti-oxidant luteolin

Research carried out in South Korea reportedly shows that an antioxidant in many fruits and vegetables could help combat cancer, reports UK newspaperThe Daily Mail.

The antioxidant luteolin, found in a range of fresh produce including carrots, celery, peppers, thyme, chamomile, peppermint and rosemary, appears to discourage cancer cells from secreting a pathway receptor, which is needed in order for the disease to spread.

According to the article, researchers are working to establish whether luteolin can be extracted from produce and turned into an effective anti-cancer drug.
