Israeli company Technological Seeds DM has revealed it is planning to unveil a new, dark-pigmented tomato called Black Galaxy at the upcoming Arava Agricultural Research and Development Exhibition in February.

According to a report on Ynet News, the company says the distinctive colour results from a special, apparently health-enhancinig pigment, which itself was derived from blueberries and introduced into the new variety.

The pigment is said to be photosensitive, meaning that the longer the tomato is left on the vine, the darker it gets.

Black Galaxy is also said to contain high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants.
