Reefer shipping firm Seatrade has launched a new direct service from Peru to Europe for exotic fruits, organic bananas and asparagus.

The Belgium-based outfit is also planning to open a new office in the Peru capital Lima in the near future.

“Peru is the new Chile,” Philip Gray, Seatrade commercial manager told Fruitnet. “Investment there is growing fast.”

The new weekly service departs the northern Peruvian Port of Paita and calls at Dover, UK; Hamburg, Germany; and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

With six network offices in the Southern Hemisphere, Seatrade claims to be a specialist in the region.
