Turbana

North American banana importer Turbana has launched a new line of 11 exotic fruits and vegetables including yucca, chayote, yellow yams, malanga and coconut.

The addition to the range is designed to provide Turbana’s retail partners with a turnkey solution as well as support the company’s expansion into the Hispanic market.

“It’s a natural extension of our product line,” explained Turbana’s marketing director Marion Tabard in a press release.

“We want to make the buying and logistical process for our retailers as efficient as possible.

“Thus, we're now offering the opportunity to buy our Tropicals and have them delivered with the bananas, which can translate into a cost saving; it's a turnkey solution.”

The product expansion also aims to help Turbana's retailers reach the large Hispanic market and other ethnic groups.

By offering this niche line of produce, retailers will reach a very specific, very substantial consumer market, according to the company.

“The ethnic market is knowledgeable on Tropicals,” said Tabard. “When the retailers can offer a versatile Tropicals line at their stores, they’re inviting in a whole new type of consumer; and the Hispanic market is certainly a growing market.”

Turbana will showcase its expanded product line at this year's PMA Fresh Summit trade show in Anaheim, California, on 26-28 October.

Turbana claims to be the fourth-largest importer of bananas, the leading importer of Fairtrade-certified bananas and plantains, as well as a growing importer of Fyffes-branded gold pineapples in the US.

Turbana is owned by Fyffes, one of the largest tropical produce importers and distributors in Europe, and by Uniban, the world's largest banana co-operative of independent growers based in Colombia.
