Fruit Logistica, the premier conference and trade fair event for the global fresh produce industry, will host a high-profile conference programme focusing on industry trends at its 2009 event, which takes place in Germany at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds on 4-6 February.

The programme will begin with the 28th Fresh Produce Forum on 3 February, focusing on 'The future structure of trade – from production to the point of sale', featuring keynote speaker David Bosshart from the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute in Switzerland.

Wednesday 4 February will see discussions on 'The battle of the retail formats – how will it end?', 'Chile – an importer with tradition and vision', as well as a committee on Eastern European Economic Relations which will seek to explore changes and current trends in the fresh produce sector of countries such as Romania and Bulgaria.

A focus on Poland kicks off Thursday 5 February, with a session entitled 'Poland – the next big player in Europe?' examining the potential of the country's retail, wholesale and production sectors. This will be followed by a debate on climate and rising energy costs in 'CO2 and the cost of energy – a challenge for the fruit trade'.

The final day, Friday 6 February, will begin with a look at consumer trends in 'The European consumer, the unknown quantity', and ends with the presentation of the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2009 during the session 'Innovation in the fresh produce business – The perfect product launch'.
