Guava Fruit Fly

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has today (17 July) started an eradication programme for the guava fruit fly after several discoveries in the San Jose region.

According to The Packer, the first pest was discovered in the Mayfair area on 3 July, with two subsequent discoveries in domestic stonefruit trees – commercial production remains unaffected, according to the authorities.

If eight more flies are found, or if authorities find a mated female or larva in the fruit, a quarantine will be announced.
