US NW Pear Anjou Branch

The Pear Bureau Northwest released its revised forecast on 28 October, estimating 21m 44-pound boxes of pears this season, which sits just short of the record 21.6m boxes during the 2013 season.

While 6 per cent below last year’s, the estimated crop will sit 2 per cent higher than the five-year average, with green Anjou, Bartlett and Bosc pears accounting for 90 per cent of production.

“We’re looking forward to another crop of excellent quality and fruit size to meet the demands of the domestic and export markets,” Kevin Moffat, CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest said in a company statement. “Our representatives across North America and the world have a full season of promotions in place to help boost sales, and we’re looking forward to working with our retail partners in another successful pear season.”
