Canada 50 best managed companies awards logo

North American fresh produce industry giants Oppy, Fresh Direct Produce, Mastronardi and JemD Farms have been named among the 50 best managed companies in Canada in recognition for their implementation of world class business practices and their creation of value in innovative ways last year.

Oppy has been chosen for the last 12 editions of the national awards programme, making it one of the longest-standing organisations to be involved.

This time around Oppy has also earned the prestigious national award’s Platinum Club member status for the fifth consecutive year.

The 2012 result also marks Toronto importer Fresh Direct Produce's second consecutive win and Ontario-based greenhouse vegetable grower-distributor Mastronardi’s fourth straight year of being named a top 50 company.

Davis Yung, president and co-founder of Fresh Direct Produce, thanked the company's customers, suppliers and team members in a press release.

Mastronardi’s nomination elevates the company to the Gold Standard level, according to president Paul Mastronardi.

“My family has been focused on growing quality, flavorful produce for almost 60 years, and it is with great pleasure that we accept this award again this year,” he said in a release

Jim DiMenna, president of JemD Farms, expressed his “thrill” at being chosen as one of the winners of the prestigious award, in a release fromhis company.

“Our company goal of constant evolution and continual growth is very important to our team, having this award bestowed upon our company is truly an honor,” DiMenna explained.

The winners of Canada’s Best Managed Companies go through an assessment process which is overseen by sponsors Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking,The National Post, MacKay CEO Forums and Queen’s School of Business.
