Opal apples

The Opal apple variety, which recently picked up a marketing excellence award, will be showcased at PMA Fresh Summit 2015 In Atlanta, Georgia on 24-25 October.

Attendees can experience the sweet and crispy yellow apple at the FirstFruits Marketing of Washington booth, as well as samples of fresh Opal cider.

After a record-breaking season with highs in volume, number of retailers and consumer reach as well as receiving a marketing excellence award, Opal apples will kick off the next season in November.

“We had a very successful Opal season and a lot of it was due to solid retail relationships,” says Keith Mathews, CEO of FirstFruits Marketing of Washington. “We just finished the Opal harvest and picked less volume than had been projected but we will endeavor to support every customer on a day-by-day basis.”

Opal apples are grown in Washington by Broetje Orchards with FirstFruits overseeing the fresh sector and Ryan’s Juice managing the processed sector including Opal apple cider.
