Dole Fresh Vegetables announced a temporary shutdown at its processing facility in Springfield, Ohio and a total withdrawal of all salads produced there following a listeria outbreak that has killed one person and hospitalised 19 across six states.

The salad brands included in the recall include Dole, Fresh Selections and Simple Truth Organic, a Kroger brand. Affected packs can be identified with a product code beginning with the letter “A” in the upper right-hand corner of the package.

In a statement sent to ABC News, Dole officials said the voluntary recall was issued 'out of an abundance of caution' and stressed that no other Dole facilities are affected.

The victims were located inMichigan, Massachusetts, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
