Asia Fruit Logistica Us stand

Fresh produce companies from across the world are rushing to make their presence felt at Asia Fruit Logistica 2013.

With just under six months to go before Asia’s premier fresh produce trade show opens its doors in Hong Kong, reserved exhibition space is up 17 per cent on the corresponding stage of 2012, according to organiser Global Produce Events.

Exhibitors from some 25 different countries have already signed up to take part in Asia Fruit Logistica 2013, which takes place at AsiaWorld-Expo Center on 4-6 September.

Argentina, Australia, Chile, China, Ecuador, France, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa and the USA have all booked national pavilions at this year’s show.

Latin American banana export powerhouse Ecuador will be exhibiting for the first time at Asia Fruit Logistica. The country’s presence – coordinated by the Institute for Export and Investment Promotion (ProEcuador) – will be anchored by the Ecuadorian Banana Exporters Association, which is seeking to build on recent gains in the Chinese market in particular.

Ecuador’s exports of Cavendish bananas to China shot up by 378 per cent in value terms in 2012, garnering almost US$18m.

“Last year, we exported a lot of bananas to China and we must keep pushing to build demand there as well as in other Asian markets,” said Paul Peñaherrera, commercial consul for the Ecuadorian Consulate General in Guangzhou, China.

“Many people in these markets still do not know Ecuador or what it can offer, so this is a big opportunity for us to showcase our products and services.

“We’ll be bringing over the biggest and best banana companies from Ecuador so visitors can be sure of getting the best fruit, and we hope to develop new commercial relationships across all Asian markets at the event.”

A range of other new exhibitors will make their debut at Asia Fruit Logistica 2013, including Tomra Sorting Solution (Belgium/China), Rio Doce Import Export (Brazil), INI Farms (India), Ponso Societa Cooperativa Agricola (Italy), First International Corporation (Japan), Asia Seed and Onycom (South Korea).

Exhibitors to this year’s event will have more time to do even more business, with new extended opening hours of 10:00-17:00hrs daily.

A record 5,722 visitors from 64 different countries attended Asia Fruit Logistica 2012, with visitor survey results showing that the vast majority were decision-makers in their companies.

Asiafruit Congress, the number one conference event for Asia’s fresh produce business, will take place on 3 September 2013 at AsiaWorld-Expo Center, the day before Asia Fruit Logistica opens its doors. Returning with a compact, high-impact format, the conference will include a packed and varied programme, followed by a joint Asiafruit Congress-Asia Fruit Logistica Welcome Reception.

With the rapid rate of exhibitor registrations for Asia Fruit Logistica 2013, exhibitors are advised to book now to secure their place.
