Italian kiwifruit brand Jingold and one of the country’s largest kiwifruit marketers, Ferrara-based Gruppo Mazzoni, have agreed to work together to produce and market a number of different varieties, including yellow- and red-fleshed ones.

Announced at this week’s Macfrut trade show in Rimini, the companies revealed they were planning to collaborate on the development of markets worldwide for two yellow kiwifruits, Jintao and Jinyan, as well as the Dong Hong red cultivar, which is sold as Oriental Red.

The partnership is understood to incorporate strategic collaboration along the entire supply chain, from production all the way to distribution in the market.

It also represents a significant win for Jingold, with Mazzoni joining Alegra and Naturitalia, the two business units of Italian fresh produce giant Apo Conerpo, in marketing the kiwifruit brand.

“The agreement signed with Mazzoni promises to develop further Italian production of yellow- and red-flesh varieties, production of which is at present low in comparison with the demand in the market,” commented Jingold director Alessandro Fornari.

“The deal also endorses the decision made by Jingold in the last few years to secure partnerships with the largest Italian companies in order to make the country’s kiwifruit more competitive thanks to segmentation in the market with varieties characterised by particularly high quality standards.”

Mazzoni’s managing director Luigi Mazzoni said he was pleased with the deal, underlining the fact that kiwifruit represented a strategic product for the company and, as such, it was essential that it offered producers a new opportunity to boost their productivity and earning potential.
