Following on from World Environment Day (5 June), CMA CGM Group has moved to highlight the improved performance of its ships in reducing carbon emissions.
The global shipping giant has announced it cut its CO2 emissions per container transported by 4 per cent in 2016.
The performance puts the group on track to achieve its goal of reducing CO2 emissions per container by 30 per cent between 2015 and 2025.
“Improved performance in the years ahead will come through the application of new technologies, including the use of alternative fuels such as liquefied natural gas, thanks to partnerships with energy groups such as Total and Engie,” CMA CGM said in a statement.
The group claimed it reduced its CO2 emissions per container transported per kilometer by 50 per cent between 2005 and 2015.
It currently offers the premium Carbon Footprint and Ecocalculator services to its customers that calculate carbon emission per shipment, enabling them to update the footprint onto their own balance sheets.
