Compac has announced the launch of itsInspectra2internal inspection system for fresh produce.

The new platform uses a spectrometer to measure light absorption as an indicator of internal properties and effects without touching the produce.

“There is a lot of value to be gained for the packhouse by accurately measuring the internal properties of each piece of produce,” explained Andrew McQueen, Compac’s senior product manager.

“Inspectra2is designed for flexible application, capable of measuring properties such as sugar content (brix), dry matter and internal defects.”

McQueen said the ability to detect these properties for each individual fruit gives packers the confidence they are delivering premium products, thereby protecting brand value.

“A fruit’s external appearance is important for the first purchase by consumers, but for repeat purchases, a complete experience is vital,” McQueen added.

“That means the fruit must taste as good as it looks – and that is why our customers will useInspectra2to ensure a positive experience with consumers and ultimately protect their brand.”

As the second-generation of Compac’s internal grading technology,Inspectra2was developed with usability firmly in mind. Its design features an improved user interface with streamlined modelingand calibration.

The technology applies a number of learnings from Compac’s award-winning Spectrim platform, reflecting what McQueen describes as a generational step forward for internal grading, as Compac’s engineers begin working with the spectroscopy team at Tomra, the food sorting company that acquired Compac last year.

It is anticipated launch sites will be fitted out in the first half of 2018, with the global roll-out expected to begin soon after. The solution will be offically unveiled at the Compac & Tomra booth at PMA Fresh Summit in New Orleans later this month.
