Blue Forest blueberries Uruguay

Uruguay has become the latest Latin American country to gain access to the Chinese market for its fresh blueberries.

During an official trade visit to China last week Enzo Benech, the Minister for Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries said agreements had already been signed for the opening of the market for blueberries and cattle and there were plans for increasing collaboration in the forestry sector.

Benech expressed his surprise at the warm welcome he had received from the Chinese government. Speaking from Beijing he said: “We were very impressed by the response we have had from the different Chinese authorities, they have received us with the utmost interest”.

Uruguay was one of around 18 countries displaying their wares at the inaugural edition of China Fruit Logistica this week.

The trade fair drew over 2,000 top-quality buyers and trade visitors from throughout China’s retail trade and fresh produce business, according to official numbers from organiser Global Produce Events (Shanghai).
