Dates and figs are among a new wave of products set to boost Peru’s export line-up in the coming years.

Speaking to Fruitnet at last week’s Fruit Logistica trade fair in Berlin, PromPeru, new plantings in the south of the country will bring a significant rise in production in the next three or four years. The organisation is also working to increase shipments of passion fruit, turmeric and ginger to Europe.

Some 400 Peruvian companies – the country’s biggest delegation yet – closed business deals amounting to a record US$$300m during Fruit Logistica 2020.

“Our products were showcased to international buyers who were able to corroborate that Peru is synonymous with quality assurance in production as well as being both socially and environmentally responsible, complying with the very highest health and hygiene standards,” PromPeru said.

Avocados and blueberries are two of the products that have led Peru’s export surge in recent years, while asparagus, grapes and mangoes have consolidated their position in the European market.

Peru will continue its promotional drive in European markets this week by attending Biofach 2020, the world’s leading organic food trade fair, where around 30 companies will be exhibiting.
