Pack Expo International 2008, the leading US-based event for the packaging market, focused on some of the key industry issues including, innovation and increased efficiency via automation.

The event, which took place in Chicago on 9-13 November, featured 55 conference sessions including a major look at one of the leading trends in packaging, sustainability.

'The conference at Pack Expo added value for attendees by delivering information on trends and packaging issues that companies are wrestling with right now,' said Charles Yuska, CEO of PMMI. 'The 1,300 participants chose more than 3,300 individual sessions, exploring all facets of the packaging supply chain.'

Over 44,000 visitors attended the show this year, according to statistics gathered at the event, a slight dip (3 per cent) from the previous year. Exhibitor personnel also fell to 23,849 from 25,666, but the drop in figures are to be expected in the current global financial climate, according to Mr Yuska. 'In today's economic conditions, having a slightly lower attendance than the 2006 show is the reality,' he said.

The 2009 event will be held on 5-7 October 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.
