The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) has honoured US-based Stemilt Growers with the status of Non-Retail Role Model, a title handed out to groups helping to increase fresh produce consumption through the Fruits Veggies More-Matters health initiative.

Open to growers, shippers and processors, the title recognises activities that helps spread the campaign's message.

Stemilt has integrated the campaign into community outreach activities like its cherry promotion using Sesame Street's Elmo and its Crunch before Lunch promotion.

PBH president and CEO Elizabeth Pivonka said: 'Stemilt Growers has been a long-term supporter of PBH and had exhibited a true commitment to the Fruits Veggies-More Matters public health initiative.

'We appreciate the efforts made by all of our non-retail donors to spread the word that increasing fruit and vegetable consumption is important,' she added. 'Stemilt has exhibited role model status attributes by going above and beyond in their support of Fruits Veggies-More Matters and PBH.'

And Stemilt Growers' managing director Roger Pepperl said that the group was pleased to receive the award and would continue to back the initiative.

'Stemilt is proud to be the very first non-retailer to receive PBH's role model designation,' he said. 'Stemilt is a proud supporter of PBH and Fruits Veggies-More Matters. Like PBH, our company believes that including more fruits and vegetables at every meal is key to living a longer, healthier life.'
