Mastronardi Produce/SUNSET has announced in the press release that the company has begun transitioning all of its current boxes to bleach free recycled material leading up to Earth Day on 22 April with high impact images printed on 100 per cent recycled craft boxes.

“This is an important time for our company as we strive to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Paul Mastronardi, executive vice-president. “We continue to make the commitment to our customers that we pack all of our produce in recycled packaging, we now take it a step further in shipping our produce in 100 per cent recycled boxes.

“This further demonstrates our need to implement energy efficient practices in our business process. By eliminating bleach from our boxes, we can now produce a cost effective and earth-friendly shipping case that is made from 100 per cent recycled material,” concluded Mr Mastronardi.

Mastronardi has also unveiled a further initiative called The Green Grass Project, which identifies key items in the business which contribute to an eco-friendly environment.

Split in to three distinct phases of growing, packaging, and distribution, elements include using recycled growing mediums, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) using good bugs and bumble bees, recycling water/fertilizer, recycled pop bottle clamshells and energy efficient lighting, among other initiatives.

All SUNSET boxes will now carry The Green Grass Project tag line on the inside panels of the box and highlight the project elements on the underside of the box.
