Cal Giant Wimbledon promotion

US-based berry grower-shipper California Giant Berry Farms has taken part in a Wimbledon-themed promotional event to help build up to this year's 'Sweetest Match' campaign and push the message of combining healthy eating with regular exercise.

Beginning on 22 June, the group set up a grass tennis court at the Rockafeller Center in New York to celebrate the two-week UK tennis event, while offering visitors traditional strawberries and cream – a famous staple of the Wimbledon championships.

Cal Giant provided 75,000 strawberries for the public to enjoy at the event's outdoor viewing area, with activities on offer including public play on the court, live daily Wimbledon broadcasts and the involvement of former US tennis stars Jim Courier and Jennifer Capriati.

'The opportunity to participate in these exciting activities nationally and in New York City really helped to reinforce our messaging at California Giant about the importance of combining diet and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle,' said Bill Moncovich, President and CEO of California Giant Berry Farms. 'As a grower-shipper of fresh berries, we are proud to contribute to the health of American consumers by providing abundant, healthy and delicious products.'

The publicity event served as a platform to promote the national sweepstakes that began on 1 June and runs through to 31 July, 'The Sweetest Match', which sees Cal Giant team up with the Tennis Channel to offer a trip to Wimbledon in 2011.
