Florida Citrus Packers (FCP), the trade group which represents the US state's fresh citrus packers, has officially announced the election of new officers during its 49th annual meeting, held on 25 June.

Michel Sallin, president and chief executive officer of Vero Beach-based IMG Citrus, has been named as Florida Citrus Packers' new president, while Cody Estes, president of Quality Fruit Packers of Indian River, also based in Vero Beach, assumes the role of second vice-president.

Don Barwick, general manager of Heller Brothers Packing Corp, has been appointed secretary and treasurer.

The group also elected Messrs Sallin and Barwick, along with Larry Black, general manager of Peace River Packing, to its executive committee for the 2009/10 season, with Mr Sallin installed as the committee's chairman.

Meanwhile, Florida Citrus Packers has also recognised Tim Gottwald, a plant pathologist with the US Department of Agriculture’s horticultural research laboratory in Fort Pierce, Florida, as the industry’s 'Man of the Year'.

Mr Gottwald received the group’s John T Lesley Award of Excellence for his work on tackling the citrus canker disease.
