European flavours

The first year of the European Flavors project has ended with positive results, with over 3m new contacts recorded following a series of initiatives such as media advertising campaigns, promotional events, trade fair participation, sales missions, meeting and events.

Financed by the European Union (50 per cent), Italy (30 per cent) and the CSO (20 per cent), the scheme aims to promote the consumption of EU-grown fresh and processed fruit and vegetables in key export markets such as the US, Japan and Russia.

Taking place between 2008-2010, the €4m European Flavors initiative uses the positive health affects and nutritional value of EU-produced produce as key sales drivers, with featured produce including kiwifruit, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears and plums.

After the positive results seen in 2008, the project is set to continue with a series of promotional and advertising events programmed for the US and Russia, designed to raise awareness and appreciation of EU fruit and vegetables.
