Naturipe Farms

Global berry producer-marketer Naturipe Farms is this month running a blueberry display contest for US retailers nationwide as part of the group’s National Blueberry Month celebrations during July.

The Ripe Time to Display competition invites entrants to submit photos of their blueberry displays (16ft2 or larger), according to a company press release. Extra points for creativity and cross-merchandising combinations will be awarded.

The grand prize winner will receive their airfare, hotel and entry to PMA Fresh Summit 2009 trade show in Anaheim, California, which will take place on 2-5 October.

Blueberries are harvested in North America from mid-March through early October, with the harvest reaching its peak in July.

Last year, some 653m lbs of blueberries were produced in North America, up from 390m lbs in 1999.

Fresh blueberries continue to increase in per capita consumption in the US to 14.7 ounces per person in 2008, as consumer awareness for the fruit’s health benefits and convenience has grown.
