California Giant owners and staff have announced in a press release their upcoming participation for the sixth consecutive year in the 24-hour American Cancer Society Relay For Life on 8 August in Watsonville, California.

To meet their fund raising goal, the company’s staff have been using their creativity in organizing several community fundraisers, including a big community BBQ held at Cal Giant’s corporate offices on 14 July. So far, the group has raised some US$18,000.

On 14 July, over 680 Skirt Steak BBQ lunches were prepared and sold generating over US$7,500 in profits toward the team goal. The entire Watsonville staff rolled up their sleeves to pre-sell lunch throughout the community then began cooking early that morning in preparation for the hundreds of people that would soon stop by the office to collect.

California Giant Berry Farms has served as the presenting sponsor for the event held in Watsonville since its inception. The company’s team that attends each year comprises staff, owners, and their families who come together at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds for an overnight relay against cancer. This year it will be held from 10am on 8 August until 10am on 9 August.

“California Giant has been committed to fundraising for the American Cancer Society since the company was formed over 35 years ago,” said Bill Moncovich, Cal Giant president, in a company statement. “Almost everyone you meet today has been touched by cancer either directly, or with family or friends. We at Cal Giant believe strongly in the work being done by the American Cancer Society and support their efforts every year.”

“We are so proud of the efforts made by our staff to support the Relay for Life with such enthusiasm. Not only are we raising funds for a worthy cause, but we are creating such positive energy in the workplace here at Cal Giant,” added Mr Moncovich.
