The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) has been awarded the inaugural Innovation Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in recognition of the organisations efforts in advancing policies and environmental strategies to prevent and control obesity.

BH was one of eight organisations handed the pioneering Innovation Award, with fellow winners also recognised for their successful work in the fields of environmental, economic, social and cultural shifts towards reducing and preventing obesity in the US.

'PBH is pleased to be recognised for the variety of marketing and nutrition education programmes it produces in support of the 'Fruits & Veggies-More Matters' national public health initiative,' said Elizabeth Pivonka, president and CEO of PBH. 'PBH, as co-chair of the National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance, also seeks to advance nutrition policy efforts as well as industry, government and non-profit organisation collaboration.'

Dr William Dietz, director of the CDC's division of nutrition, physical activity and obesity, said that his group was excited by the group of award recipients and the commitment to reducing obesity in general.

'There is much focus on what individuals can do to improve their health, and while that is important, we must remember that our nation's health is also strongly affected by population-level changes that result from the collective efforts of all sectors of society,' Dr Dietz said.
