Mexican avocados

The Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers Association of Michoacán (APEAM) has unveiled plans to promote Mexican avocados in Ontario, Canada, next month in collaboration with Faye Clack Communications (FCC).

The comprehensive campaign will feature media relations activities, in-store sampling and promotions, retail display contests and social media to educate, engage and entice the trade, food media and Ontario consumers, according to an APEAM press release.

“FCC has developed a tongue-in-cheek initiative to create a link between avocados and Ontario consumers that will thread throughout the activities of the campaign,” explains APEAM marketing director Emiliano Escobedo.

“Ava Cado – the star of her own Ontario-based telenovela – will arrive from Mexico just in time for the launch to spread the message about Avocados from Mexico in a fun and memorable way. The campaign gets off to a lively start with a consumer sampling event at Union Station (Canada’s largest commuter hub) on 16 September.”

The event at Union Station coincides with Mexican Independence Day and will take place during the morning rush hour featuring an authentic Mexican fiesta with music, dance, recipe demos and a massive giveaway of 20,000 avocados.

APEAM is coordinating a number of marketing campaigns this season to promote Mexican avocados, with events set to take place in the US, Canada and Japan.
