Kroger has launched a new line of own-label fresh salads that enable consumers to monitor the product's origin under the retailer's 'Quality You Can Trace' initiative.

Fresh Selections, a series of ready-to-serve packaged salads, include the new HarvestMark traceability system developed by YottaMark, which allows customers to enter information into a website and find information on the salad's packing location, ingredients, date and time of packing, as well as offer feedback on the product.

'Kroger continues to be a leader in offering customers innovative food safety tools and resources,' said Kroger's vice-president of produce, meat, seafood and deli Joe Grieshaber. 'Food safety is a top priority for Kroger. Our partnership with HarvestMark makes it easy for customers who are interested to learn more about the food they purchase for themselves and for their families.

'Kroger is committed to helping our customers prepare safe and delicious meals for their families,' Mr Grieshaber added. 'We look forward to continuing to offer our customers innovative and affordable food safety technology.'

Fresh Selections salads are available in all of Kroger's produce departments, priced at between US$0.99 and US$4.99 depending on the variety.
