European Flavors PMA 2009

Europe has the capacity to respond to the demands of North American consumers for top quality and natural products. That was the stand-out message at the PMA Fresh Summit trade show for European Flavors, the three-year project financed by the European Union, Italy and members of the CSO Fruit and Vegetables Services Center.

“Thanks to its historical tradition and commitment to high quality production through respecting the environment and using eco-compatible techniques, Europe can successfully respond to the needs of American consumers, who are increasingly appreciating high quality natural products in their everyday lives,” said Paolo Bruni, CSO president.

European Flavors showcased the best of European production to key-players in the North American marketplace at the PMA Fresh Summit trade show, held in Anaheim, California, on 2-5 October.

“It’s a project that proposes to promote the international consumption of fruit and vegetables using several strengths of European production, such as high quality, the presence of several typical products, product traceability, ample guarantees of natural quality and respect for the environment,” explained Mr Bruni.

“These characteristics are all greatly appreciated by American consumers, who are becoming more demanding and aware of these aspects in their daily choices for food and agricultural products. In response to these trends, European Flavors can offer the best solutions to the rapidly evolving American market demands.”

The Italian delegation was headed up by Made in Blu, a leading player in high quality fruit and vegetable production, which provided a significant contribution to PMA Fresh Summit 2009.

Participation this year was aimed mainly at the importance of a healthy diet and presented numerous and interesting new products characterised by one common denominator – enhancing quality, natural quality, and environmental awareness, according to Mr Bruni.

“The whole supply chain from production to packaging, from transport to the consumer, has proven to be more aware of these issues and more in line with the principles of green economy,” he explained. “Innovation and quality, environment and food security therefore have become the new drivers for the entire production pipeline.”
