Chile Fruit Logistica

As part of Chile’s growing interest in developing South East Asian markets, the South American producer plans to open an agricultural attaché office in Vietnam next year, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The new office will complement four others in China, India, Japan and South Korea, the latter of which was opened as part of a recent visit by a Chilean agricultural delegation to the market.

The announcement Chile’s Agriculture Ministry would open the new office came after a visit to the market by some of Chile’s leading growers and exporters in September, following the group’s attendance at the ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA trade fair in Hong Kong.

Asia as a whole is an increasingly attractive destination for Chile’s exports, according to Christian Carvajal, Asia and Europe marketing manager for peak exporter body ASOEX.

“There is interesting growth in South East Asia,” Mr Carvajal told Fruitnet.com earlier in the year, speaking before the delegation’s visit to Vietnam.

“The area is definitely increasing in terms of overall volumes. In Vietnam there are interesting opportunities for grapes.”
