Maersk Line - Elly Maersk

Maersk Line has signed an agreement with DP World Callao, the concessionaire for the new Peruvian Muelle Sur container terminal in Callao, Peru, to call at the facility upon its completion and launch between April and May 2010.

The terminal services agreement will see Maersk Line vessels take advantage of the new facility at the Port of Callao, the main gateway for imports and exports of Peru's rapidly expanding economy.

'Maersk Line is expecting an improved end-to-end cost for our clients, coupled with berth windows and higher productivity to deliver unmatched schedule reliability in the Peruvian market,' said Maersk Line's head of operations for Latin America Michael Kaasner Kristiansen. 'We are excited at the prospect of being able to further develop the already strong relationship with Maersk Line's many loyal customers in Peru.'

In turn, DP World Callao general manager Maciek Kwiatkowski said: 'The new terminal will finally provide Peruvian exporters and importers with the opportunity to reduce costs by accessing an improved shipping network as well as improved land side logistics.'

Upon completion, the Muelle Sur terminal is expected to add around 850,000 TEU of annual container handling capacity to the port.
