The expert selection panel presiding over the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA)2010 has today revealed the ten contenders for this year's title, withcompanies from Belgium, Greece, Israel, Italy and the Netherlands set to battle it out in Berlin.

2010 marks the sixth time the award has been competed for, recognising outstanding new products or services that have had a significant impact on the fruit and vegetable industry and that were launched between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Further products nominated for the FLIA 2010 include Israel-based Mehadrin Tnuport Export's Arils Removal Tool and fellow Israeli company StePac's Xsense Perishables Quality Monitoring System, as well as Greek group NGP Plastic's Easypack Black & Transparent packaging.

Also nominated are Italian organisations Aurelio Mario and Unitec for their Carrot Fettuccini and QS_300 monitoring system respectively, along with Belgian group Paramount Farms Europe's Wonderful Pistachios Salt & Pepper.

The Netherlands the leads the way this year with four nominations, including Monsanto Vegetable Seeds' Bellaverde Sweet Stem Broccoli, Polymer Logistics' Dynamic Shipper, Fyffes B.V.'s Fyffes Organic Bananas and HZPC Holland BV's Pommonde Potato Taste Concept.

Trade visitors to Fruit Logistica, which takes place on 3-5 February at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in Berlin, Germany, will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite innovation throughout the first two days of the event, with the winner announced during a special ceremony on 5 February 2010.

Dutch group Enza Zaden won the award in 2009 for its Sweet Green Pepper product.
