Namdhari’s Fresh apples

Indian horticultural firm Namdhari’s Fresh has introduced two new apple varieties imported from Washington to its burgeoning retail business.

Namdhari’s Fresh will begin stocking Honeycrisp and Cripps Pink (the variety marketed under the Pink Lady brand), imported from Washington.

“Our consumers demand the best quality apples and we have introduced these two varieties because of their unique taste and premium quality,” said Namdhari’s Fresh CEO and managing director Praveen Dwivedi.

The apples will be sold at the company’s four outlets in Bangalore’s Forum Value Mall, Kormangala, Sadashiv Nagar and Indira Nagar I, it said in a press release.

Sumit Saran of the Washington Apple Commission’s Indian representative SCS Group explained Indian consumers were becoming more interested in high-quality apples.

“Owing to the growing health consciousness among Indians, the demand for delicious Washington Apples has been on the rise,” he said.

“We are pleased to see that Namdhari’s Fresh are making more varieties of Washington Apples available to consumers.”

Most of the Indian apple market is comprised of older varieties like Red Delicious (and local derivations), Golden Delicious and Granny Smith, with Fuji and Royal Gala making inroads.
