A study by Naturipe Farms examining US consumers' organic purchase behaviours has found that fresh fruit has topped the list of the most frequently purchased organic produce.

Working with the Hartman Group, Naturipes 'Many Faces of Organic 2008' study looked at specific areas surrounding the consumption of berries, and has reported that 45 per cent of US household shoppers purchased organic fresh fruit in the three months prior to the study.

Robert Verloop, marketing vice-president at Naturipe Farms, said: 'The fact that consumers are more inclined to seek out organic berries and other produce clearly tells me that they are looking for items closer to their natural state.'
