The US National Mango Board has six new members after a series of appointments by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) secretary Tom Vilsack were confirmed last week (4 February).

The new board members will each serve a three-year term, beginning immediately and ending on 31 December 2012, the USDA announced in a press release.

According to the USDA, Ken Nabal of Frontera Produce and Ronald Cohen of Vision Import Group have been appointed as importers for district 1, with Anthony Godinez of Godinez International reappointed in the first handler position for a second term.

Meanwhile, Venancio Marti of Martex Farms has been reappointed for a second term as domestic producer, with two foreign producers also appointed – Olaf Rasch of Fruticola del Sur in Guatemala and Guillermo Palmeros of Frutas Tropicales de los Idolos in Mexico.

'We are excited about bringing new industry leaders to serve on the National Mango Board,' said board executive director William Watson. 'Taken as a whole, our board members hold extensive knowledge of every stage of the mango supply chain. I'm confident that our new members will add to that brain trust and help us continue to grow as an organisation.'
