Cherries generic grading

New Zealand’s stonefruit season is coming to an end, with figures indicating cherry exports were strong.

Cherry exports hit around 1,300 tonnes, according to Ingrid Hofman of exporter Le Fresh, who said the product was worth NZ$20m (US$14m) to New Zealand.

The season’s cherries were sent to 12 markets in Asia, Europe and North America, Ms Hofman told Radio New Zealand.

New Zealand’s apricot season is expected to last a little longer, and will be worth around NZ$10m (US$7m) this year, with the majority exported to Australia.
