The Chilean Exporters Association (Asoex) has announced in a press release that it is organising a relief campaign aimed at financing the reconstruction of an important agricultural school in the most affected rural area of the country, following the earthquake on 27 February and subsequent aftershocks.

Over the past few days, Asoex said the Chilean fresh fruit industry has received numerous ideas and initiatives from its key stakeholders across the globe in regards to how to support the earthquake victims.

But in order to target resources into priority projects and avoid unnecessary duplications among different governmental and private initiatives, the Board of Directors at Asoex has decided to select a specific aid project (in line with Chilean Government initiatives) in order to actively contribute towards the reconstruction efforts.

The details of the initiative will soon be made available, but the focus will be to sponsor the reconstruction of facilities at a rural school that will be selected from proposals already being received from exporters and growers, among others.

Once the school has been selected, the details of the reconstruction, including photographs, will be made available to all Asoex stakeholders.

A special account, to be audited by an internationally recognised entity, will be opened to channel voluntary donations made by members of the national and international fresh fruit community towards the campaign.

The industry portal chileanfreshfruit.com will continue to provide updates and details regarding the new initiative during the coming days.
