A new report released by marketing and consumer trends specialist SupermarketGuru.com in the US has highlighted the fact that over three-quarters of the country's consumers consider apples and apple beverages to be a healthy, 'eat anytime' fruit.

The study, entitled 'Apples: The Next Superfruit', is based on a poll constructed by SupermarketGuru.com of 1,021 chief household shoppers, all of whom gave their beliefs about apples with regards to nutrition, health, eating habits and more on the group's website.

Survey respondents showed that their strongest convictions for healthy fruits led them to apples, blueberries and pomegranates, while nine out of 10 consumers said that they had considered apples or apple products as part of a healthier diet.

'Apples are a year-round fruit and consumer willingness to buy, eat and serve more apples is a vast opportunity for retailers,' said Phil Lempert, food, consumer and marketing trends analyst and CEO of The Lempert Report and SupermarketGuru.com. 'Merchants already display apples prominently as a stage-setter, but now they need to think further about how to tap into this mindset that apples are a 'superfruit' and great for a person's health and overall wellness.'
