Quarantine restrictions put in place in January following the discovery of a pregnant fruit fly in Midura are set to be removed today.
According to ABC News, the Department of Primary Industries introduced restrictions such as forcing growers to have fruit cold-treated following the discovery, Sunraysia's first fruit fly outbreak in a decade.
The restrictions were extended when a second fruit fly was found at Buronga in February, the publication said.
'We've still got some of our major export markets which require the fruit to be cold transit-treated,' said Hugh Flett, chief executive of the Murray Valley Citrus Board. 'So our US market, which is particularly important to us in terms of volume and also returns, will still require treatment through to November this year.'
