Chiquita's salad subsidiary Fresh Express has issued a recall of several types of ready-to-eat salad products following the discovery of salmonella in a single pack tested by the US Food and Drug Administration.

The product list includes a number of different items, such as 5-Lettuce Mix, Caesar salad Completes Kit, Double Carrots, Hearts of Romaine and Veggie Lovers.

Fresh Express said that it was voluntarily recalling salad and lettuce packages that contain romaine lettuce, have 'use by' dates of 13-16 May and an 'S' in the product code, and that were sold in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency noted that the products had been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec and may have been distributed nationally.
