spinach leafy greens

A news release posted by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that organicgirl Produce has issued a voluntary and limited precautionary recall of a spinach product due to possible health concerns.

According to the statement, a limited number of cases of 10oz baby spinach with an expiry use-by date of 22 May and a product code of 11A061167 have been recalled, following the discovery of salmonella in a single pack during a random sample test.

The FDA, which collected and conducted the test through a third-party laboratory, noted that no illnesses had been reported in association with the recall.

It is unlikely that any of the expired products remain in commerce or on grocery store shelves, but the FDA said that the recall would alert consumers who may have purchased the potentially affected packaging.

Six states are thought to be impacted by the recall, including Alabama, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Arizona and California.

It is the second similar food safety scare in the space of a week, after Chiquita's salad subsidiary Fresh Express issued a recall of severaltypes of ready-to-eat products following the discovery of salmonella in a single pack tested by the FDA.
