Giumarra Divine apple

Wenatchee-based Giumarra has announced in a press release the addition of Divine apples to its New Zealand topfruit sourcing programme for the North American market.

Divine, a cross between Golden Delicious and Grive Rouge, was bred in France by Delbard Nurseries and is grown by Heartland Fruit NZ.

According to the marketer, the red-skinned variety is disease-resistant, crisp and juicy with a sweet, strong flavour with a medium to large size.

This is reportedly the first production of Divine from the Southern Hemisphere and, eventually, an organic version of the variety will also available for distribution in North America.

The Wenatchee office, a division of Los Angeles-based The Giumarra Cos., has also welcomed a new salesman to its team in the form of Brian Traum.

A graduate of California State University, Fullerton, Mr Traum worked most recently as director of sales and marketing for the Wenatchee-based Saint Laurent Estate Winery.
