Sun World International has confirmed that Allen Vangelos, who took temporary charge of the company as its president and chief executive officer five months ago, will remain in the position on a permanent basis.

Mr Vangelos, who is also a member of Sun World’s board of managers, has served as the group’s interim president and CEO since January 2008.

“Sun World’s board and management team are delighted with Al’s decision to accept the position on a permanent basis,” board chairman Christopher Parker said in a statement.

The company said Mr Vangelos had brought a “professional, seasoned management approach” to Sun World. He has previously served in senior management roles or held directorships with such a number of leading US fresh produce firms, including Calavo, Dole Food Company, BC Hot House and Ready-Pac Produce.

Separately, Johan Jooste, general manager and vice president of Sun World’s South Africa operation has been promoted to vice president of international licensing for the parent company Sun World International. Mr Jooste will remain based in Paarl, South Africa.
