The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Ready Pac Foods has issued a voluntary product recall of some of its baby spinach products, because of the possibility of E. coli contamination.
The Californian group is recalling 702 cases of the baby spinach variety of Spinach Temptations 6oz bagged salads, with the use-by date of 4 July and product code 11707B, and with the use-by date of 8 July and product code 12007B.
According to the FDA, the recall extends only to products with these use-by dates of product codes sold in California, Washington and Arizona, with no other Ready Pac products included in the recall.
No illnesses related to the products have been reported, and the group has collaborated closely with the FDA since the confirmation of a positive E. coli find in a random sample test conducted by the Administration.
'Ready Pac Foods Inc has earned an outstanding safety record for over 40 years and has taken immediate precautionary measures to protect public health by issuing this voluntary recall and removing product from the market,' the group said in a statement. 'We have notified all of our retail customers who have received the product in question and directed them to remove it from their shelves.'
