Uruguay's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Tabaré Aguerre, will reportedly host a series of meetings in the US this week to address issues related to accelerating procedures for the entry of citrus and mutton into the US market.

Among other receptions, Minister Aguerre is scheduled to meet with US Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack or possibly another official in the hierarchy of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), according to a report by El País Uruguay.

The Minister also plans to meet with the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis), the body in charge of establishing the formal steps for phytosanitary and sanitary authorisation, including granting access for Uruguayan citrus.

Later, the Secretary of State will meet with the chief of US agricultural negotiations gathered at the US Trade Representative to address issues related to multilateral negotiations involving the two countries in the framework of the World Trade Organisation.

Finally, the Uruguayan Minister will meet with Walter Bastian, undersecretary of commerce for the Western Hemisphere.
