Peru mangoes

The 2009/10 Peruvian mango campaign has ended on a high note with exports between January and July rising by 70 per cent in value to US$85.4m, according to a report from the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex).

In January exports of fresh mangoes and their derivatives reached their highest sales value of US$29.5m, Adex said.

The following month, some US$29.2m-worth of mangoes were sold, according to Adex, with US$18.5m in March, US$4.3m in April, US$1.3m in May, US$1.5m in June and US$864,000 in July.

Of the seven-month total, fresh or dried mangoes represented US$61.6m.

The US ranked the largest importer of Peruvian mangoes, absorbing US$34.9m worth of the sendings between January and July this year.

The Netherlands ranked second, representing US$29.7m of sales, followed by the UK with US$4.7m, Canada with US$4.1m and France with US$3.1m.
