Hurts's Berry Farm

Hurst’s Berry Farm has announced in a press release the re-organisation of its marketing, sales and packing operations into a brand new entity called HBF International LLC (HBF).

As part of the new agreement, HBF will have exclusive rights to the Hurst’s Berry Farm logo and image, and will continue to market and sell under the brand.

As such, HBF will source berries from the US (California, Oregon and Washington), Canada, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, with 15 per cent of the volume to be marketed internationally.

Meanwhile, Hurst’s Berry Farm will continue to operate as a production company (with blueberry and kiwiberry operations in Oregon) and manage its grower-exporter subsidiaries (of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries) in Mexico.

Under the agreement, 100 per cent of Hurst’s Berry Farm’s production will be marketed, sold and packed by HBF International.

According to the company, the change in structure is designed to accommodate future growth as well as to give clarity and focus to each aspect of the firm.

As part of the development, Mark and Patty Hurst, sole owners of Hurst’s Berry Farm, have appointed Doug Perkins as a partner in HBF International.

Mr Perkins has worked for Hurst’s Berry Farm for over five years, during which time the company has enjoyed extensive growth as a direct result of having him on board.

As managing director, Mr Perkins will focus his energies on the growth of HBF International, while Mr Hurst will split his time between HBF International and Hurst’s Berry Farm.

“The timing couldn’t be better to form a new company designed to strengthen our position in the market,” says Mr Hurst.

“While the berry business is good, we want to ensure that we stay on the correct path for years to come, which having Doug on board will help us do.”

Mr Perkins added that the new venture comes from a desire to exceed customers’ expectations, while at the same time remembering the firm’s mission of ‘Leadership, Loyalty and Excellence’.

“This partnership does just that,” he commented.
